Because mainstream media doesn't always tell us what we want to know. Because there are broad social issues which may not be "newsworthy", but are still important. Because you know the names, but you don't know what - or who - is behind them. Because those of us who like style also like substance... sometimes.

So what are all the categories, exactly?
Side Sense is the substance part of this website. Each week will feature a new post dedicated to a social issue you should know about, a person or group who is doing great things or just cool stuff in general that might make you feel smarter.

Side Scribble is the general writing - be it travel pieces, poetry or rants from people whose opinion may not make a difference, but still matters. To the person with the opinion, anyway.

Side Style is all about the designers, the stylists and the people who wear their clothes so well. It will include weekly street style as well as interviews with the visionaries who make us want to spend copious amounts of money we don't have.

Side Sight features the photographers, the artists, the design studios and all image makers that throw our eyeballs - and creative inspiration - into rapture. It also includes a weekly shot of a side street in Sydney, because duh, that's our name.

Side Site is the section on the places you should visit when you've made the decision to walk out the door but haven't quite figured out where you're going to go. There will be little snippets on our favourite bars, restaurants, shops and galleries. Yes, it's broad, but they are all PLACES, aren't they? We thought so.

Side Silence is where you turn to when you feel like telling everyone around you to shut up. The section includes reviews on our favourite books and films of all time. No, we're not pro literature or movie buffs, we're just normal people who like to escape from life when we get a chance. You don't have to take our advice if you don't want to.

Side Scene is a by no means comprehensive guide to what’s going on in the city during the upcoming week. We really just pick one or a few events that have stood out to us, and these can include live music, festivals, theatre or, well, anything else, really. We wish we could, but we don’t have the time to tell you everything.
